Andy Serkis Gollum Late Show

Andy Serkis Mocks Russian President Putin as Lord of the Rings Gollum Character on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert'

The actor reprised his iconic role for a brief sketch on the late-night talk show.

Andy Serkis made a surprise appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night (March 2) to promote his new film, The Batman. However, the actor couldn't resist taking a moment to mock Russian President Vladimir Putin by impersonating his Lord of the Rings character, Gollum.

Serkis, who voiced Gollum in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, resurrected the character for a brief sketch in which he mocked Putin's recent actions in Ukraine. In the sketch, Serkis' Gollum character sits on a throne and rants about how he wants to "find the One Ring" and "rule the world." He also makes several references to Putin's own rhetoric, such as his claim that Russia is "defending itself" in Ukraine.

The sketch was met with laughter and applause from the audience, and it quickly went viral on social media. Many people praised Serkis for his clever and timely use of satire to mock Putin.

This is not the first time that Serkis has used his Gollum voice to mock Putin. In 2014, he recorded a video in which Gollum sang a song about Putin's annexation of Crimea. The video was also met with widespread acclaim, and it helped to raise awareness of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
