Latest polls show narrowing gap between Labour and Conservatives
The Scottish National Party (SNP) has lost 38 seats in the Scottish Parliament election, leaving them with just nine. The Conservatives won just 121 seats, down 251 from the 2019 notional election results. Tory support cratered in many parts of Britain, with the party losing seats in Scotland, Wales, and England.
Conversely, Reform UK, the far-right party campaigning on issues such as immigration, has received 14% of the votes so far but only two seats. This suggests that the party's support is concentrated in a small number of areas.
The latest polls show a small but noticeable narrowing in the gap between Labour and the Conservatives. Labour is now polling at 35%, up 2 points since the last poll, while the Conservatives are polling at 33%, down 1 point. This suggests that Labour is gaining ground on the Conservatives, but it is still too early to say whether this will be enough to win the next general election.
With 649 results declared, 300 MPs had been re-elected, 334 successful candidates are becoming MPs for the first time, while 15 are becoming MPs again having previously lost their seats.
