Varsho breaks out of cold spell in clutch vs. O's

Toronto Blue Jays

DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Despite a slow start to spring training, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is ready to be an impact bat for the Toronto Blue Jays this season.

Gurriel went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the Blue Jays' 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon at TD Ballpark.

The hit was Gurriel's first extra-base hit of the spring and snapped an 0-for-10 skid.

"I'm feeling good," Gurriel said through interpreter Hector Lebron. "I'm just trying to get my timing down and get ready for the season."

Gurriel's double came in the first inning and drove in Whit Merrifield, who had singled to lead off the game.

The Blue Jays added another run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Bo Bichette.

The Orioles cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Ryan McKenna.

Toronto got the run back in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Raimel Tapia.

The Orioles made it a 3-2 game in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Ramon Urias.

Blue Jays reliever Hagen Danner pitched a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win.

Jordan Romano pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save.

The Blue Jays open the regular season on April 7 at home against the Texas Rangers.
